Lisa Schlosser

Chief Information Officer

At the Housing and Urban Development Department, Lisa Schlosser sees her role as that of an "enabler"-connecting potential homeowners looking to buy and housing officials looking to sell.

As HUD's chief information officer, Schlosser says it is her goal to provide a venue for homeowners and business leaders to communicate and do business. Since taking the position last February, her main focus has been promoting the department's homes-for-sale Web site, Homesales.gov. She calls this the "fun part" of her job. "We try to think of creative ways to ensure housing," she says.

Increasing homeownership through technology is what Schlosser defines as her real mission in the IT office. She constantly meets with business leaders in HUD's field offices, which account for 75 percent of the department's business, to promote the Web site and create additional ways to reach out to potential homeowners. Technology changes the focus of business, Schlosser says, and as the most tech-savvy person at HUD, she's the one to make advances in that area work in synch with business needs.

Prior to HUD, Schlosser held two IT positions at the Transportation Department. She was associate CIO for IT security in 2001, the department's first senior-level official in that area, and later became the associate CIO for IT investment management. She spent several years in the private sector, first at Ernst & Young as a senior manager of e-security, then at Global Integrity Corp., where she was vice president of business operations and response services. Schlosser also served as a military intelligence officer, specializing in IT security and communications, and continues to serve in the Army Reserve.
