Senate majority leader, Lieberman to meet

Discussion will focus on the future of Connecticut senator's chairmanship of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., will likely meet with Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn., to discuss his future as chairman by the end of the week, a Democratic leadership aide said Wednesday.

Lieberman, an outspoken supporter of Sen. John McCain of Arizona, earned the ire of his party colleagues for his sharp criticisms of president-elect Sen. Barack Obama in a speech at the Republican National Convention.

Former Democratic staffers have expressed skepticism Lieberman will be able to keep the chairmanship.

According to one Reid aide, however, Reid has not made a decision one way or the other.
