Tricare stops mailing paper notices of benefits changes

Tricare is warning beneficiaries to make sure they have an online milConnect account to receive information about changes to their coverage now that the Defense Department has stopped mailing paper letters on changes to coverage and eligibility status.
Tricare said it now will send only emails or postcards directing beneficiaries to online resources where they can view their information. Beneficiaries with a valid email address in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System will get emails directing them to go to milConnect to read online letters concerning benefits. Those without an email address in DEERS will get a postcard directing them to milConnect.
The emails and postcards will contain a short generic message notifying beneficiaries of a change to coverage or eligibility, but no personal information, Tricare said.
"Most letters regarding your Tricare benefit will now be online at milConnect only," stated an update on the Tricare website. "You will need to maintain a DoD Self-Service Logon (DS Logon) account to continue to receive electronic letters. milConnect can also be accessed using your Common Access Card (CAC) or Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) pin, if applicable."
