GovExec.com at 10, Part Five: Where We Go From Here

In the final installment of our series on the 10th anniversary of GovExec.com, we take a peek in the crystal ball at what the future may bring.

This week, we've strolled down memory lane, looking at GovExec.com and the world we've covered for the past 10 years.

Now let's look in the other direction. What does the future hold?

We believe that there's much more that we can do online under the Government Executive umbrella. But we have no intention of straying from our core mission: to cover news about the management and operations of the federal government as it happens.

In recent months, we have tried to boost our capacity to provide in-depth information on key subjects of interest to civil servants, such as our Life After Government section on retirement planning issues. Likewise, we've put together special reports on news events and broader trends, such as Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts and the growth of telework in government.

We will continue to seek out new ways to aggregate our reporting in such packages.

We're branching out into the world of online video in our new GovExecTV section. In so doing, we're acknowledging that it's a broadband world, and multimedia rules the day. Our efforts so far represent just dipping a toe in these waters, so you can expect to see much more along these lines in the years ahead. We're already begun to collaborate with industry partners to host interactive Webinars on key subjects.

Likewise, we've got a foothold in the blogging world in the form of Fedblog, but that won't be the end of our efforts to explore this new form of publishing. And we think there's much to be done in the area of providing databases of key information about the business of government -- and who's doing it.

As we venture out into such new frontiers, we're more closely integrating our print and online operations. Our daily news reporters increasingly contributing longer pieces to the print magazine, and vice versa.

Finally, we hope that before too long, you'll be seeing a new look for GovExec.com, as we continue to try to optimize the user experience of the site.

Most importantly, we need to hear from you about what we should be doing. So drop us a line with your thoughts. And from all of us on the GovExec.com team, thanks for your support for our efforts over the past 10 years.
