IRS names new personnel chief

The Internal Revenue Service has named Ron Sanders as its new chief human resources officer.

Sanders, the former head of civilian personnel at the Defense Department, will be responsible for strategic personnel planning and policy, corporate education, labor-management relations and leadership and organizational development. He will also oversee implementation of the IRS's new personnel flexibilities.

A frequent contributor to Government Executive, Sanders has been on an Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA) assignment with the George Washington University since January 1997.

As a professor of public administration at GW, Sanders founded its Center for Excellence in Municipal Management, a unique public-private partnership chartered to assist the District of Columbia in its management reform efforts. Sanders is co-author of Civil Service Reform: Building a Government That Works (Brookings Institution, 1996).
