Deputy Energy Secretary Elizabeth Moler played it safe Wednesday in a speech before the National Energy Resources Organization, focusing her remarks on the administration's utility restructuring plan and not on the possibility that she will be tapped to replace outgoing Energy Secretary Pena.
Moler teased the packed crowd, however, by saying she was "stunned" by the size of the audience. "I don't have any idea why you are ... in this room," she said.
Moler clearly intends to be tight-lipped on the subject foremost on the minds of those in the energy community.
"Not a word," Moler said, when asked by CongressDaily whether she had heard if she would receive the nomination.
Moler then proceeded to outline for the crowd the already familiar principles of the administration's electricity restructuring plan, which was released earlier this month, and to emphasize the need for a federal bill.
