DOLE REGISTERS AS TAIWAN FOREIGN AGENT-"Former Republican presidential nominee Robert J. Dole has registered to work as a foreign agent to help Taiwan improve its relations with Congress and the administration, prompting complaints from Democratic critics who say the arrangement violates the terms of Dole's loan agreement with House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) not to lobby" (The Washington Post).

PRESIDENT ANNOUNCES DIRECTIVE, PROPOSALS TO DEAL WITH DRUG USE BY PRISON INMATES-"President Clinton proposed measures yesterday to crack down further on drug use by prison inmates as he continued a blitz of policy announcements highlighting the 1998 agenda he intends to lay out in his State of the Union speech in two weeks" (The Washington Post).
