ASPA's 58th National Conference

The American Society for Public Administration is hosting its 58th National Conference in Philadelphia July 26-30. The theme this year is "Global Challenges, Local Responses." DTIC Annual Conference

The Defense Technical Information Center is presenting its Annual Users Meeting and Training Conference on Nov. 3-6, 1997 at the DoubleTree Hotel, National Airport, Arlington, Va. **TSP OPEN SEASON**The Thrift Savings Plan Open Season runs through July 31. During this time, you may begin contributing to the TSP, change the amount of your TSP contributions, or allocate TSP contributions to your account among the three investment funds. THE FEDERAL DIARY--At 9 a.m. tomorrow on WUST radio (1120 AM), a benefits expert from Customs will talk about survivor benefits vs. life insurance, and what mid-career feds should be doing to prepare for layoffs or retirement. At 10 a.m., Del. Eleanor Homes Norton (D-D.C.) will talk about pending legislation affecting federal workers (The Washington Post).

SEXUAL HARASSMENT--A group of women at the FAA have filed a class-action internal complaint with their agency about sexual discrimination and harassment. Their lawyers say they will follow up with a class-action lawsuit. The allegations the women describe span two decades in control towers across the nation (USA TODAY).

E-MAIL TROUBLE--Traffic on much of the Internet ground to a halt early yesterday after a pair of human errors. For much of the day, World Wide Web sites all over the US were inaccessible and millions of electronic mail messages bounced back to their senders, creating chaos for businesses and individual computer users worldwide(The Washington Post).
