U.S. Navy International Logistics Symposium

Secretary of the Navy John H. Dalton will be a guest speaker at a three-day International Logistics Symposium sponsored by the Navy International Programs Office in conjunction with the American Society of Naval Engineers, July 14-16, 1997, at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Crystal City, VA. Representatives from government, industry and foreign nations will meet to exchange ideas and review exhibits on a variety of logistics topics related to the Navy's Foreign Military Sales program. **TSP OPEN SEASON**The Thrift Savings Plan Open Season runs through July 31. During this time, you may begin contributing to the TSP, change the amount of your TSP contributions, or allocate TSP contributions to your account among the three investment funds. IRS--"A congressional commission studying ways to improve the Internal Revenue Service yesterday recommended a wide range of changes in the agency's organization and operations" (The Washington Post).

HUD--"In a bid to end its status as the government's only high risk' agency, the Department of Housing and Urban Development will today unveil what its officials describe as a radical' reorganization that calls for stronger controls against housing fraud and a significantly smaller staff" (The Washington Post).

WEATHER CHIEF OUT--National Weather Service Director Elbert W. "Joe" Friday Mr., architect of its $4.5 billion modernization program, was removed yesterday in a dispute over the agency's budget. Commerce officials said he had been offered another position at NOAA. If he does not accept the reassignment he will be discharged from the SES (The Washington Post).

TEMPS--Temporary employment firms are having a hard time finding skilled workers due to the tight labor market (USA TODAY).
