Feds Open Wallets for Clinton

The Washington Post reports today that a new study by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics shows that federal employees are among the biggest individual donors to President Clinton's reelection campaign.

Federal employees have contributed a record $312,000 to the Clinton campaign, but only $50,000 to Republican presidential nominee Robert Dole.

The list of the top 50 groups of individual donors to Clinton shows that among the biggest are the government of Guam (ranked second, behind the accounting firm Ernst and Young), the Agriculture Department (third) the State Department (13th), the Justice Department (19th), the Commerce Department (36th) and the Transportation Department (37th). Federal employees' contributions ranged from $250 to $1,000.

Lawyers were the biggest individual contributors to the Clinton campaign, while most of Dole's support came from the financial sector, including the banking, insurance and securities industries.
