GovExec Daily: Federal Police Militarization and Presence at Protests

Dr. Angelica Durán-Martínez joins the podcast to discuss federal agency police at demonstrations in Portland through the lens of her research.

Since protests began against police violence in the spring, cities like Washington, D.C., and Portland found that local police were not the only law enforcement on the scene. Federal law enforcement from agencies like the Homeland Security and Justice Departments were there, often seeming to escalate violence during the rallies.

Dr. Angelica Durán-Martínez is an Associate Professor of Political Science at University of Massachusetts Lowell. She joined the podcast to examine the role of federal police in protests through the lens of her research into other countries’ similar experiences.
