Play of the Day: When a Trade War is Actually a Trade Squabble
President Trump is downplaying the trade disagreement with China.
Democratic 2020 hopeful Beto O'Rourke told The View this week that he regrets announced his presidential campaign via a Vanity Fair cover story. Late Night's Seth Meyers joked about the news, showing a fake Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue cover and joking that Bernie Sanders "has some regrets, too."
After China said it would place tariffs on American goods as a retaliation, President Donald Trump spoke to reporters on Tuesday about the trade war he has initiated with the Asian power. Trump told reporters that Americans businesses will be fine if "you make your product in the United States," prompting Late Show's Stephen Colbert to joke "it will be awkward for Trump, as he'll have to stop using his own ties… and his hair, I'm guessing." Trump told reporters that the disagreement is more of a squabble than a war, prompting The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon to joke that Trump confused the word with the popular board game, while Colbert did a Trump impression saying "we had the Civil Squabble. We had World Squabble One, World Squabble Two."
