The "You're fired!" president did not fire the attorney general.
During a Wednesday press conference, President Donald Trump said that many people want to work for him and that "We are a hot White House." The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon joked about the news, saying that Trump would then start into Nelly's "Hot in Herre".
Attorney General Jeff Sessions resigned on Wednesday after rumors of his falling out with Trump. Late-night hosts joked about Sessions' look, with Fallon saying he looks like one of Santa's elves and The Daily Show's Trevor Noah comparing him to a fairy tale troll. According to reports, Chief of Staff John Kelly informed Sessions of his fate, prompting Jimmy Kimmel to note the irony that the guy who was famous for saying "You're fired!" seems to have to have Kelly do his actual firing for him.
