AROUND GOVERNMENT--OPM's USAJOBS Web site provides the latest in worldwide federal job openings plus state, local government, and private sector job vacancies (USA TODAY)...An Alexandria firm is trying to create an audience for the sounds of Congress over the Internet [FedNet](The Washington Post)...IRS Commissioner causes problems by attending the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August (The Washington Post)...The Defense Department plans to restructure its worldwide commissary system so it can operative more like a private-sector grocery store (The Washington Post, In Brief)...Under a recent budget agreement, federal agencies earmarked for new buyout programs include NASA, HUD, IRS, the Energy Department and the Agriculture Department (The Washington Times).

Vice President Al Gore has been more active in issues concerning federal employees than nearly all of his predecessors...At some offices, reinvention means nothing but RIF.
