Investigative Report Into Bowe Bergdahl's Disappearance Delayed

Maj. Gen. Kenneth Dahl is seeking more time to complete the probe.

The Army says it needs more time to complete the ongoing investigation into the 2009 disappearance and subsequent Taliban capture of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.

On June 16, Maj. Gen. Kenneth Dahl was given 60 days to investigate the circumstances of Bergdahl's disappearance and to decide whether or not he had violated any laws or regulations. But Dahl was given an extension, Army spokesman Wayne Hall said on Friday.

“It is important that the investigation be complete, and we are confident that Maj. Gen. Dahl would not ask for more time if it wasn’t necessary. Haste makes waste,” said Bergdahl's attorney, Eugene Fidell.

Last week, Dahl completed two full days of questioning Bergdahl during which Bergdahl answered every question, according to Fidell.

Bergdahl, who was held by the Taliban for five years, was released in May in a controversial exchange for five Taliban members of varying ranks who were being held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Several fellow soldiers have claimed Bergdahl is a deserter who walked away from his outpost in Afghanistan and put the lives of others at risk in searching for him.
