GovExec Daily: Federal Employees, the Hatch Act and Protests

Sarah Martin, who represents employees in discrimination and whistleblower cases, joins the podcast to talk about how feds can stay within the bounds of the law.

Federal employees live in the world and are not immune to the key issues of any given day, including the political and social changes within the U.S. Cities throughout the nation are seeing protests against racialized police violence, with thousands sometimes showing up.

Federal employees do have to comply with the Hatch Act, which complicates any fed’s participation in any protest. Sarah Martin is an attorney at Kalijarvi, Chuzi, Newman & Fitch, P.C. and serves on the Board of Directors for the Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association. She joined the show to talk about the Hatch Act and how federal employees can participate in demonstrations without running afoul of it.
