G Fund Interest Rates
The G fund is the Government Securities Investment Fund established by the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board as part of the Thrift Savings Fund for Federal employees, pursuant to the Federal Employees' Retirement System Act of 1986. The G Fund began on April 1, 1987.
Monthly rates represent the statutory interest rates (expressed on a per annum basis) applicable to G fund investments made during the specified month. They are not adjusted for administrative expenses, compounding or the allocation of earnings to the accounts of Thrift Savings Plan participants.
Average annual rates represent the annualized returns that would be achieved if it were assumed that:
- The average of the monthly rates (for only those months when the G fund was operating) prevailed throughout the calendar year.
- Interest was compounded on a monthly basis.
