Play of the Day: Donald Trump Jr.'s Attorney-Client Privilege With His Father
The president is not a lawyer. Nor is his son.
Sen. Al Franken will resign in the coming weeks, the Minnesotan announced Thursday on the Senate floor. The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon joked about the news, saying another Senator will probably resign tomorrow and he's "not basing this on any news, I'm just assuming another Senator will resign tomorrow."
While testifying to the House Intelligence Committee, Donald Trump Jr. cited attorney-client privilege to avoid telling lawmakers about a conversation he had with his father, despite the fact that neither he nor President Donald Trump are attorneys (there were attorneys present during the conversation). House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Adam Schiff – who is a lawyer – said "we did not think this was a recognizable privilege," prompting The Opposition's Jordan Klepper to say Trump Jr. is "privilege personified," while The Late Show's Stephen Colbert joked that he'll use Trump Jr.'s excuse when he tries to rob a law firm. After all, there would be tons of attorneys present and they won't be able to testify.
