Play of the Day: Betsy DeVos, the Senate and Percentages
Donald Trump's pick for the Department of Education got confirmed by a 51-50 margin, but can she do that math?
President Donald Trump tweeted Tuesday morning that he doesn't "know Putin, have no deals in Russia, and the haters are going crazy." Jimmy Kimmel joked that "the haters are going crazy" would be cause for alarm in any other presidential administration, while Viceland's Desus and Mero joked that Trump's tweets are starting to sound like they would make for great hooks in rap songs.
Trump's pick to be education secretary, wealthy Republican donor and charters school advocate Betsy DeVos, was confirmed by the Senate Tuesday. Mike Pence broke the 50-50 tie, causing the Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon to joke that it was the only time in education history that a 51 was a passing grade. DeVos' lack of experience in public education was also mocked, with Late Night's Seth Meyers, Conan O'Brien and Late Show's Stephen Colbert joking that DeVos can't do simple math Tuesday night. Colbert even noted the irony for DeVos's confirmation, since Rep. Thomas Massi, R-Ky., proposed a bill this week to eliminate the department DeVos will lead, comparing DeVos to the pilot of the Hindenburg.
