Play of the Day: The Sessions Confirmation Hearings Have Begun

The Justice Department nominee's past gets scrutiny in the Senate.

Barack Obama gave his farewell presidential address Tuesday night in Chicago. Late Night's Seth Meyers joked about the upcoming transition to Donald Trump's by comparing it to a blended family situation. Jimmy Kimmel gave some history about presidential farewells by noting the Alexander Hamilton helped craft George Washington's farewell speech … which means it would be the hottest ticket in the country.

Also on Tuesday, the Senate began nomination hearings for Trump's pick to lead the Justice Department, Senator Jeff Sessions. Meyers joked about the Alabaman's full name and his 2015 support of the Confederate Battle Flag hanging in his state's capitol. Late Show's Stephen Colbert noted allegations that Sessions has supported the Ku Klux Klan and Sessions' denial Tuesday, saying "everyone be careful not to trip over that extremely low bar as you're leaving the chamber."
