Boston Federal Buildings Closed to Public; Employees Cautioned

Federal buildings in Boston were closed Tuesday as law enforcement officials urged residents of the city and surrounding areas to shelter in place during a manhunt for one of the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing.

The Greater Boston Federal Executive Board posted this update to its Facebook page:

All Level 4 Federal Buildings in Boston are closed to the public today. This includes the O'Neill, McCormach, JFK and Williams Buildings. Employees may access but urged to exercise discretion and pay attention to public safety and law enforcement updates. MBTA service continues to be suspended until further notice.

Employees should check with their employing agency for their agency status as it varies based on location and mission.

Another update to the Facebook page noted that officials were "are advising all residents, citywide, to shelter in place."
