Joe Biden will head effort to curb gun violence

Effort is part of the emerging White House strategy, which includes support for assault weapons ban.

President Obama will announce Wednesday morning that Vice President Joe Biden will head up an effort to form administration policies to curb gun-related violence.

The effort is part of the emerging White House strategy on gun control, which includes support for an assault weapons ban and opposition to the so-called gun-show loophole. White House Press secretary Jay Carney said on Tuesday that cracking down on high-capacity magazines is another potential area the president could target.

President Obama, accompanied by Joe Biden, will make a statement in the Brady Press Briefing Room on the administration's policy process just before noon on Wednesday. The room is named for former White House Press Secretary James Brady, who after being severely injured in an assassination attempt on President Reagan in 1981 became a leading gun safety advocate.
