GovExec Daily: How the Vaccine Rollout is Leaving out Communities of Color

According to a November CDC analysis, non-Hispanic Black Americans are 1.4 times more likely to contract COVID-19 and 2.8 times more likely to die from the disease than their white counterparts. But, as the vaccine roll out ramps up, there is a great disparity between Black and white Americans in vaccination rates. In some states, the vaccine rate is doubled for white Americans against that of Black Americans.

Dr. Judy Lubin, PhD, MPH is a sociologist, analyst, racial justice advocate and founder and president of the Center for Urban and Racial Equity. She is also a researcher in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at Howard University.  She joined GovExec Daily to discuss the vaccine disparity, what can be done to narrow the gap and how public health disproportionately discounts Black Americans.
