Report: HUD's Donovan to OMB in Cabinet Shift

San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro would be appointed to lead HUD.

President Obama has decided to shuffle his cabinet, choosing San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro to head the Housing and Urban Development Department and shifting current HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan to the top job at the Office of Management and Budget, the New York Times reported

The Times attributed its report to "Democrats informed about the plans."

Castro has been mentioned as a potential 2016 vice presidential candidate. He was a keynote speaker at the 2012 Democratic National Convention. Castro would add a prominent Hispanic appointee to Obama's cabinet.

The Washington Post reported that Castro was being considered for a Cabinet post, "most likely" HUD.

Donovan, who has served in the HUD post since the beginning of the Obama administration, would assume the OMB position being vacated by Sylvia Mathews Burwell. She has been nominated to take over as Health and Human Services secretary in the wake of the departure of Kathleen Sebelius.
