Obama's deputy Commerce pick withdraws nomination

Terry Garcia, an executive vice president at the National Geographic Society, was named for the post in May but hasn't been confirmed.

President Obama's choice for deputy Commerce secretary will withdraw his nomination on Wednesday because of the prolonged Senate approval process, Reuters reported.

Terry Garcia, an executive vice president at the National Geographic Society, was chosen in May, along with Obama's pick for Commerce secretary, former energy executive John Bryson.

Both nominations have been held up by Senate Republicans seeking to pressure the administration to send a trio of free trade agreements to Congress.
