House appropriations subpanel members named

New Republican subcommittee appointments on the House Appropriations Committee were unveiled Friday by newly installed Chairman Don Young, R-Alaska.

In addition to Young succeeding former Chairman Bob Livingston, R-La., six of the 13 subcommittees will have new chairmen.

New District of Columbia Subcommittee Chairman Ernest Istook, R- Okla., and Military Construction Subcommittee Chairman David Hobson, R-Ohio, are first-time "cardinals," while the others-Defense Subcommittee Chairman Jerry Lewis, R-Calif., Energy and Water Subcommittee Chairman Ron Packard, R-Calif., Legislative Branch Subcommittee Chairman Charles Taylor, R-N.C., and VA-HUD Subcommittee Chairman James Walsh, R-N.Y.-chaired other subcommittees in the last Congress but decided to shift their portfolios this year.

Jay Dickey of Arkansas and Rodney Frelinghuysen of New Jersey, Defense (formerly National Security); Frelinghuysen and Reps. Michael Forbes of New York and Tom Latham of Iowa, Energy and Water; Lewis, Foreign Operations; Wamp, Reps. Jack Kingston of Georgia and John Peterson of Pennsylvania, Interior; Rep. Randy (Duke) Cunningham of California, Labor-HHS; Lewis, Peterson and Rep. Kay Granger of Texas, Legislative Branch; Walsh, Miller, Granger and Rep. Robert Aderholt of Alabama, Military Construction; Granger, Transportation; Emerson, Peterson, and Rep. John Sununu of New Hampshire, Treasury-Postal; and Sununu and Rep. Anne Northup of Kentucky, VA-HUD.
