Selective Service offers Web draft registration

The Selective Service has made it easier for young men to register for the potential draft, the Associated Press reported Wednesday.

Instead of signing up at the local post office and waiting for a confirmation card, young men age 18-25 can now hop on the Internet, head to www.sss.gov, and start the draft registration process on-line.

After submitting the form, Selective Service will mail a registration card within 30 days. To complete the process, the recipient must sign and date the registration card and mail it to the Selective Service within 10 days.

"We're giving men yet another easier, faster way to take care of their legal obligation," Lew Brodsky, the agency's director of public and congressional affairs said. "He'll be hooking directly to the mainframe and when he hits the 'submit' button, he's going to get an instantaneous Selective Service number. He'll be registered as of that moment."
