Mileage reimbursement rate increases

Get that penny jar ready. The General Services Administration has added 1.5 cents per mile to the amount federal employees are reimbursed for using their personal vehicles on official business.

Feds who use their automobiles will now be reimbursed at a rate of 32.5 cents per mile. Motorcyclists also got a 1.5 cent boost, to 26 cents per mile. And personal aircraft mileage reimbursement rates climbed three cents, to 88 cents per mile.

The personal vehicle rate increases are the first in two years.

The rates only apply when no government vehicle is available. If a government vehicle is available but an employee gets approval to use a personal vehicle, the mileage rate is 23.5 cents per mile. That rate is unchanged. If an employee uses a personal vehicle without approval when a government vehicle is available, the reimbursement rate is 10.5 cents per mile.
