Berated by Congress, resented by taxpayers and threatened by computer problems, the IRS enters this year's return-filing season facing a task that may be impossible" (The Washington Post).
FDA FUNDING SHIFT LEAVES SOME SHAKEN-"From the look of President Clinton's proposed budget, one might think it's a glorious time to be a scientist. The president has asked for $78 billion for scientific and technological research for the coming fiscal year and kicked off a $160 billion, five-year commitment to fund civilian research. But for some 350 scientists at the Food and Drug Administration's Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), the future is anything but bright" (The Washington Post).
WILD HORSES ARE FILLING FEDERAL CORRALS-"A federal program to round up excess wild horses and burros on public land and offer them for adoption is overwhelmed with too many animals and not enough people willing to take them home. More than 6,000 unadopted animals have accumulated in government corrals and sanctuaries" (The Washington Post).
