U.S. LOST $15 MILLION SELLING PUBLIC TIMBER-"The business of selling timber from America's national forests cost taxpayers about $15 million last year, according to a U.S. Forest Service memorandum that reflects the agency's first acknowledgment of a net loss from timber sales" (The Washington Post).

McMILLEN LIKELY TO LEAVE FITNESS COUNCIL-"Don't look for one-time pro basketball player and former U.S. representative Tom McMillen, D-Md., to be staying on much longer as head of the President's Council on Physical Fitness. McMillen has been having some rough times this year, the latest being a raid Tuesday on his Complete Wellness Centers Inc. headquarters on Capitol Hill" (The Washington Post).

CLINTON INITIATIVE ON RACE IS LACKING, GINGRICH SAYS-"House Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga., chastised President Clinton yesterday for not including conservative voices in his attempt to start a national dialogue on race relations" (The Washington Post).

CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENTS

Government Technology Leadership Institute

Dec. 2-3. "Leading Change, Leveraging Technology." Marriott Metro Center, Washington, D.C. Through examination of case studies and practical theories, the institute will demonstrate the pontential and pitfalls of IT initiatives, explain key laws and regulations, and teach how best to evaluate the performance of ongoing technology programs.
