CLINTON SAYS HE'D TALK TO JUSTICE DEPARTMENT-"President Clinton said yesterday he is willing to be interviewed by Justice Department investigators if Attorney General Janet Reno requests it as part of her review of whether to seek an independent counsel to examine the president's 1996 fund-raising activities (The Washington Post).

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NERVOUSLY AWAITS FORECAST ON ITS FUTURE-"The National Weather Service is struggling through a storm that brings rising political pressures and tightening purse strings. The agency's director is already a casualty and long-term modernization efforts could be slowed" (The Washington Post).

ARMY NAMES NEW TOP SERGEANT, DENIES IMPACT ON McKINNEY CASE-"The Army yesterday named Command Sgt. Maj. Robert E. Hall as its new sergeant major of the Army, acting several days after removing Gene C. McKinney from the post" (The Washington Post).

CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENTS

Access America Conferences

The National Performance Review (NPR), will launch a series of informational conferences aimed at providing government employees and private industry IT officials with techniques and strategies for implementing the goals of Access America, an NPR report outlining steps to increase access--via the Internet--to government services. The first conference will be held November 3 (changed from September 25) in Baltimore, Md. and then will travel to other cities across the country. Expert panels will discuss IT topics, including Internet/Intranet successes, the future of Distance Learning and collaboration, IT acquisition and procurement reform, and privacy and security.

Industry Advisory Council's Executive Leadership Conference

October 5-7, 1997 Richmond, Virginia.
