U.S. Navy International Logistics Symposium

Secretary of the Navy John H. Dalton will be a guest speaker at a three-day International Logistics Symposium sponsored by the Navy International Programs Office in conjunction with the American Society of Naval Engineers, July 14-16, 1997, at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Crystal City, VA. Representatives from government, industry and foreign nations will meet to exchange ideas and review exhibits on a variety of logistics topics related to the Navy's Foreign Military Sales program. **TSP OPEN SEASON**The Thrift Savings Plan Open Season runs through July 31. During this time, you may begin contributing to the TSP, change the amount of your TSP contributions, or allocate TSP contributions to your account among the three investment funds. TOP POSTS--"A corporate attorney who has helped reform the Los Angeles Police Department in the post-Rodney King era and a veteran civil rights litigator known for framing settlements in complex cases have been chosen to fill two of the top jobs at the Justice Department. Raymond C. Fisher, president of the Los Angeles Police Commission will be nominated as associate attorney general, and Bill Lann Lee, western regional counsel for the NAACp Legal Defense and Educational Fund Inc., will be named to head the civil rights division, Attorney General Janet Reno announced yesterday" (The Washington Post).

EARLY OUTS--"White male supervisors making $40,000 or more, headquarters staff members and workers in so-called "overhead" jobs will get most of the early retirement and buyout offers when agencies begin the next--and maybe last--double-header offer in October. Thousands could get buyouts, worth as much as $25,000 before deductions, and early-outs provided they leave by Dec.30" (The Washington Post).

RETIREES--"Navy's AIRASW (antisubmarine warfare) Sensors Office is losing two of its best to retirement. Program manager Earl Benson is leaving after 26 years of service. Also, budget financial manager Joan Newsome, is leaving after 34 years" (The Washington Post).

RACE RELATIONS--"President Clinton Thursday launched a yearlong initiative to combat racism and intolerance in the United States by naming a seven-member advisory board to advise him on the issue" (The Washington Times).
