Direct Daily News

Open your front door each morning and there, on the welcome mat, is the newspaper. It's delivered to you every day; all you have to do is open the door. Now when you sit down at your computer each morning, you can have the news you use at work right where you need it.

The desktop delivery comes courtesy of a company called PointCast. Today, PointCast, along with BTG Inc., released a new edition of its software tailored to federal executives, managers and employees. Government Insider, which can be downloaded off the World Wide Web from www.fedcast.com, includes various "channels" of news, weather, and sports information.

Government Insider's primary channels include a Defense Department channel, a legislative channel, and, we're pleased to announce, a Government Executive channel.

The Government Executive channel will have daily news as reported by Govexec.com on pay and benefits, management issues and politics, as well as Thrift Savings Plan performance information.

The DoD channel will include news from all of the military services as well as departmentwide news.

By late summer, other departments will be able to add their own channels to Government Insider.

Government Insider is free and will be advertiser-supported.
