SBA Official Cleared

Small Business Administration Inspector General James Hoobler last week wrote Sen. Robert Torricelli, D-N.J., saying that he has cleared Office of Advocacy official Kevin Bromberg of charges that Bromberg did anything improper in his activities as part of the agency's opposition to EPA regulations to expand reporting requirements under the Toxic Release Inventory.

The regulations were finalized April 22. Torricelli had written to SBA Administrator Aida Alvarez on April 8 saying that disturbing questions had been raised about Bromberg's cooperation with affected industries in opposing the regulations. Before joining SBA, Bromberg was an industry lobbyist on TRI.

Hoobler said Bromberg's actions "were proper and carried out in compliance with the Office of Advocacy's statutorily-mandated mission to promote the interests of American small businesses."
