Fort Benning, Ga., Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station, N.C., Ingleside Naval Station, Texas, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, and the Defense Supply Center, Richmond, Va., have won the Defense Department's 1997 Commander in Chief's Award for Installation Excellence.
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced the winners recently. The award recognizes outstanding and innovative efforts of those people who operate and maintain U.S. military installations.
Defense officials said each winning installation succeeded in providing excellent work conditions, housing and recreational facilities for service members. The officials said excellent installations enable better mission performance and enhance the quality of life for military men and women and their families.
