What Union Execs Make

According to a salary survey of association executives' salaries published this week in , John Sturdivant, president of the American Federation of Government Employees, the largest federal union, makes more than $115,700 per year. He is outdrawn, however, by Robert Tobias, head of the second largest union, the National Treasury Employees Union. Tobias makes more than $120,000.

Both Sturdivant's and Tobias' salaries are peanuts compared to the heaviest hitters among Washington's association executives. Jason Berman, chairman of the Recording Industry Association of America, makes $1,087,846, according to the survey. Motion Picture Association of America President Jack Valenti makes $921,377 and Eugene Upshaw, Jr., executive director of the National Football League Players Association, makes $894,101.
