Clinton Picks Budget Man for SSA

White House aides say President Clinton has settled on Office of Management and Budget Associate Director for human resources Kenneth S. Apfel as his choice for Social Security commissioner, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Apfel, 48, a former aide to former Sen. Bill Bradley of New Jersey, began with the Clinton administration as an assistant secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services.

An announcement of Apfel's impending appointment has yet to be made.
