The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee has postponed a vote on whether Federico Pena's nomination to be energy secretary should advance to the full Senate, possibly until the end of the month.
Also yesterday, Sen. Richard C. Shelby, R-Ala., chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, again postponed confirmation hearings for CIA Director-designate Anthony Lake, saying questions had not been answered about foreign campaign donors and Lake's divestiture of four energy stocks.
Meanwhile, Rep. Bill Richardson won unanimous confirmation from the Senate Tuesday to become U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
