epublicans who backed the drinking water protection and pesticides control laws to spruce up their tattered environmental credentials could be disappointed.
``The damage has already been done,'' Republican pollster Vince Breglio said, referring to earlier Republican attempts to roll back federal environmental protection programs.
Sixty-five per cent of the public believes Congress is doing a poor to fair job of protecting the environment, according to a poll conducted by Breglio and Democratic pollster Peter D. Hart for the National Wildlife Federation.
