Acting CIA head visits hill on Petreaus matter

Lawmakers are angry they didn't learn earlier about affair or threatening emails.

Michael Morell, the acting director of the CIA, was at the Capitol early Tuesday afternoon, where at least one stop has involved a visiting Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s offices.

Morrell’s appearance comes amid the widening scandal that led to fall of former CIA director and Gen. David Petraeus. It also comes as several senior lawmakers in Congress have expressed anger about not being told before Friday about Petraeus’ affair with a biographer, and threatening e-mails she sent to another woman.

Details of what was said at the meeting Tuesday with Pelosi, D-Calif., or her staff were not disclosed, and her aides would not discuss if she received a complete briefing. It could not immediately be determined who else Morell was visiting while at the Capitol.

Some lawmakers are calling for an inquiry into the FBI’s handing of the case.
