Play of the Day: The Backlash Against Trump's Latest Plan

Republican luminaries are uniting against the 2016 frontrunner.

After Donald Trump released a plan Monday to ban Muslims from coming into the United States, many prominent Republicans spoke out against the candidate. Dick Cheney was among the Republicans repudiating Trump, causing both Late Night's Seth Meyers and The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon to joke about the former vice president.

In connection with his plans to fight the Islamic State, Trump said he would "go see Bill Gates" to explore "closing that Internet up in some way." Meyers and Conan O'Brien both joked about Trump's understanding of technology.

Trump's plan caused some to compare him to Adolf Hitler, a comparison with which Trump did not fervently disassociate. Meyers joked about Hillary Clinton's reaction to that statement, suggesting she's pumping her fist right now. The Daily Show's Trevor Noah commented on how Trump's plan would affect some of the most insurgent people in the world: One Direction fans. Noah also reexamined Trump's comments to Rolling Stone over the summer about his daughter, devoting a whole segment to the creepy compliments he gave Ivanka.
