Norman Mineta

he security of the United States is-and must always be-the paramount mission of our government. Nothing should ever stand in the way of providing Americans with the best possible defense against our enemies. . . .

All Americans should rest assured that the Department of Transportation, the United States Coast Guard, and the Transportation Security Administration will remain at the ready, and remain sharply focused on our primary duties-and that is, to keep our vital national transportation system safe, efficient, secure and reliable.

Our ongoing focus on transportation security will emphasize the following core principles: timely and accurate intelligence; customer service; maintaining critical transportation infrastructure; increasing capacity; and, most importantly, the continued assurance of freedom of mobility for both people and cargo. . . .

Transportation security is at its highest levels in the history of our nation, and it will be higher still tomorrow. . . .

Patience is a new form of patriotism. And I'm proud of the patience and patriotism that Americans have shown since the horrific events of Sept. 11. But they also expect results. Well, we're delivering results.
