The Zealous Web Guy

Tom Crowley, 43, Utah

Internal Revenue Service, creator of www.tsptalk.com, a Web site on which he posts all his TSP investments, his strategies and how much he loses and earns

When did you start investing in the TSP?

I don't recall exactly, but I do remember starting to get interested in it just after I had moved to Washington, in the late 1980s, when my balance started to grow.

How often do you check on your investments?

Since I run a TSP Web site, it is difficult for me to avoid it. While I don't check regularly, I always know where my money is, and how it and the stock market are performing.

What's your investment philosophy?

I take a mostly all-or-nothing active approach, moving in and out of funds as market conditions change. It's not an approach I would recommend to everyone, but I find a buy-and-hold strategy too risky.

How important is the TSP to your retirement plan?

Social Security is an unknown for some of us, so I am relying heavily on my TSP account balance and other personal investments, to reach my retirement goals.

Where are your TSP assets located right now?

It depends which day you ask. Right now, I am concerned that the market has moved to too far, too fast, so I am using the G and F funds while I wait for a better opportunity to buy back into the stock funds.
