Information Explosion

Thanks to advances in communications technology, which is reliant on access to radio spectrum, the military's dependence on its ability to move data on the battlefield has grown exponentially. If this need were measured by the capacity to transfer words in a minute, the growth in recent years would be astronomical.

World War I: 30 words per minute
World War II: 60 words per minute
Vietnam War: 100 words per minute
Gulf War: 192,000 words per minute
Future War 2010: 1.5 trillion words per minute
