The 2022 National Defense Strategy acknowledges that the United States operates in an increasingly complex global security environment defined by rapid technological change. At the vanguard of US military forward presence and power projection overseas, the US Navy must engage in a long-term competition of technological advancement with near-peer adversaries — such as China and Russia — who are rapidly developing capabilities to challenge US military operations across all domains. Thus, the Navy is undergoing a digital transformation in order to maintain a technological advantage that could prove decisive in future conflicts.
