Government Executive 2016 Presidential Poll: October 28, 2016

As reported exclusively by Government Executive.

Hillary Clinton has cemented her lead over Donald Trump among federal government employees, according to an independent Government Business Council / poll released on October 28, 2016. Clinton receives 53% of the vote, compared with 34% for Trump; in addition, Clinton holds a net favorability score 37 points higher than Trump's.

Respondents voting for Clinton because they fully support her as a candidate (59%) outnumber those voting for her because she represents the most viable alternative to Trump (42%). The opposite is true for Trump voters: a majority support him because they see him as the most viable alternative to Clinton (62%), versus the 38% who fully support him as a candidate.

Government Business Council and GovExec released a survey on October 13, 2016 to a random sample of Government Executive, Nextgov, Defense One, and Route Fifty subscribers. At least 1085 federal employees participated in the survey, including 581 at the GS/GM-13 and above grade levels and 31 members of the Senior Executive Service. Respondents include representatives from at least 35 federal and defense agencies.
