Arkansas Shows the Nation the Value of Health Data Analytics

Facing a $140 million annual shortfall, the Arkansas Division of Medical Services was able to control rising healthcare costs through innovative reforms and with the help of health data analytics.

Healthcare costs in the United States are the highest in the developed world and continue to rise. The challenge is, how do healthcare providers control costs without sacrificing quality of care? The Arkansas Health Care Payment Improvement Initiative (AHCPII) was established to tackle just such a challenge. By instituting an innovative episode-based care model and by leveraging analytics to provide physicians with updated cost and quality data, Arkansas has driven down cost growth and expanded its access to care.
