Senate Democrats get committee assignments

Following are the new committee assignments as ratified Tuesday by the Senate Democratic Steering and Coordination Committee. They are to be adopted by the caucus today. All panels retain the same size and party ratios as in the 105th Congress with the exception of the Intelligence Committee, which was reduced by one member each to a total of 17.

Agriculture: New member: Sen.-elect Blanche Lambert Lincoln, Ark. Departing from committee: Sen. Mary Landrieu, La.

Appropriations: New members: Sens. Dianne Feinstein, Calif., and Richard Durbin, Ill. Departing: Sens. Barbara Boxer, Calif., and retiring Dale Bumpers, Ark.

Armed Services: New member: Landrieu. Departing: retiring Sen. John Glenn, Ohio.

Banking: New members: Sens.-elect Charles Schumer, N.Y., Evan Bayh, Ind., and John Edwards, N.C. Departing: Boxer, Sens. Tim Johnson, S.D., and Carol Moseley-Braun, Ill., the latter of whom was defeated for re-election.

Budget: No changes.

Commerce: New member: Sen. Max Cleland, Ga. Departing: retiring Sen. Wendell Ford, Ky.

Energy and Natural Resources: New members: Bayh and Lincoln. Departing: Bumpers and Ford.

Environment and Public Works: No changes.

Finance: New member: Sen. Charles Robb, Va. Departing: Moseley-Braun.

Foreign Relations: New members: Boxer and Sen. Robert Torricelli, N.J. Departing: Robb and Feinstein.

Governmental Affairs: New members: Edwards. Departing: Glenn.

Judiciary: New member: Schumer. Departing: Durbin.

Labor and Human Resources: No changes.

Rules: New member: Schumer. Departing: Ford.

Small Business: New member: Edwards. Departing: Bumpers.

Veterans Affairs: No changes.
