The Five Agencies Most, and Least, Satisfied with Pay in 2012

Across the board, the annual list of Best Places to Work in the federal government showed a large drop in overall employee job satisfaction. A large contributor to that decline, the report notes, is the continued pay freeze in the federal government.

The below list shows the agencies most, and least, satisfied with pay in the last year, according to the 2012 Best Places to Work index. All scores are out of a possible 100.

The results are broken down by three major categories:

• Large Agencies (those with 15,000+ employees)
• Mid-Size Agencies (those with 1,000 -14,999 employees)
• Small Agencies (those with 100 – 999 employees) .

Large Agencies - HIGHEST Satisfaction with Pay:

1. Intelligence Community (67.9)
2. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (67.0)
3. Environmental Protection Agency (64.3)
4. Department of Transportation (63.3)
5. Department of Commerce (62.9)

Large Agencies – LOWEST Satisfaction with Pay:

1. Department of Veterans Affairs (45.5)
2. Department of Homeland Security (53.9)
3. Department of the Army (55.0)
4. Department of Agriculture (55.1)
5. Department of the Treasury (55.4)

Mid-Size Agencies - HIGHEST Satisfaction with Pay:

1. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (80.8)
2. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (67.1)
3. Office of Personnel Management (66.2)
4. Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency (65.5)
5. General Services Administration (63.5)

Mid-Size Agencies – LOWEST Satisfaction with Pay:

1. National Archives and Records Administration (48.4)
2. Federal Trade Commission (51.2)
3. National Labor Relations Board (53.4)
4. Securities and Exchange Commission (54.9)
5. U.S. Agency for International Development (55.2)

Small Agencies - HIGHEST Satisfaction with Pay:

1. Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (78.3)
2. Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (74.2)
3. Surface Transportation Board (74.0)
4. National Endowment for the Humanities (70.1)

Small Agencies – LOWEST Satisfaction with Pay:
