The push to leverage information technology to modernize an anachronistic health care system has become a national imperative, and a key element in health care reform efforts.

It's a huge undertaking with many moving parts. The Health and Human Services Department’s Office of the National Coordinator is leading the initiative to help the nation’s health care providers share clinical data electronically, thereby improving patient care.
